I'm both new to the forum and a new owner. I bought my 2002 "Blackbird" just over 2 weeks ago, and I love it. It was a one-owner trade-in that I purchased from a Ford dealer. I know the original owner took delivery in October 2002.

The car has some options that I understood to be offered only on the 2003 models. For instance, the car has the SelectShift automatic, 2 speed variable interval wipers, and the 280 hp rated engine. Perhaps Ford integrated some of the 2003 changes into late-year 2002's? The car is titled as a 2002 vehicle, so I'm curious to discover it's "birthday."

Any additional information you can provide about the car would be greatly appreciated. My VIN is 1FAHP60A82Y125042.

I found the below information where I think you wanted to refer to however it doesn't show build date or sale date. I hope to have that soon. Of course I am not interested in the previous car fax for another car, but I do have a question. When they say, "7 records found, order here", does that mean that there are 7 bad things related to that car? Accidents etc. ? Or just who the previous owner was?

Thanks again... I found that too before I bought it. Verified it was a one owner with no problems reported. But, I didn't look at the historical data until now.

George... 7 is the number of historical items about the car. First one shows the build date (mine was 8/22/2002). The car was sold to the original owner 10/01/2002, and traded into the dealer on 01/12/2004, from whom I later bought it.

This is a really interesting car... it took over a year to build - the only explanation I can think of for that was that the dealer kept changing the specifications of the car and it went back to the end of the scheduled build sequence. You said CarFax reports the build date as 8/22/02, the Ford people I was in touch with today insist their data is correct - that it was built the 19th.
I wonder how the fact you got a 2003 engine figured into the deal. Ford could not have been puting many of the 280 horse engines in by August because production of the 2003 Bird and Lincoln LS was delayed until November 2002 due to lack of the 280hp engine supply.

2002 SR-71, did you pay for a subscription to CarFax reports or only for one report? If you can still run free reports look and see when DaveDs car, VIN 1FAHP60A62Y124116, was reported sold. The Ford system says 7/31/03 and he says he didn't get it until November so we're wondering if the dealer sold the car to somone else who backed out, or if the car was titled to someone else, or a lease company, before he got it.

Thanks for the info! The engine and the SelectShift transmission might explain the delay, but your point on November availability casts some doubt. Still no confirmation on my end on the 280 hp motor. Do any of your Ford sources know locations to check? Location of engine numbers? (though they're probably not accessible with the motor installed)

I bought a subscription good for a couple more days....

08/08/2002 Vehicle manufactured and delivered to dealer
11/14/2003 Title issued in NY and first owner reported
11/14/2003 Registered in NY as a personal vehicle

No explaination as to the one year lag, but no other owner reported.
