rough idle

I have a 2002 t-bird and when it idles it is real rough. Sometimes worse than others. It has started running rough driving down the road. My fuel millage has gone down. Now my check engine light is on. I hate to go to the dealer as I don't trust them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. GBSB

Sounds like an oxygen sensor or COP's. Do you have a local mechanic with diagnostic capabilities? I don't go to Ford either. 50K on my '04 and no extended warranty. Ford in Waco tried to charge $50.00 to change wiper blades during regular service.

Thanks for the info. I will try to find some one to scan it. It has 90,000 miles on it and this is the first trouble I've had . Love my T-Bird GBSB
