Using a 12Volt temperature sending unit on a 6 volt system
I need some help. I purchased a 55 t bird. The temp gauge did not work. My mechanic determined that the gauge was working so I ordered a new sending unit. When we went to replace it we discovered that my 55 has 57 heads and a 57 12 volt sending unit. The hole opening does not accomidate the larger sized 55 sending unit I bought. Is there a way to use the 57 12 volt sending unit with a resistor or something to work in my 6 volt system and gauge?

12 volt equipment will not work to my knowledge on 6 volt systems. you will have to convert over to twelve volt which is generally a good idea anyways due to the fact 6 volt systems are not as reliable and it is harder find bulbs as well.

John:
As long as you're this far, it would make a lot of sence to change your Bird over to 12 Volt system. You won't be sorry. Just my opinion ![]() |
