Is this a good deal?

I found a dealership that has a used 03 Bird, red with red accent, red hardtop, 16701 miles for $28990. Dealer said they would take off $1000.

The way I look at it is, if they want $28k for that, I would want to consider a left over '04 with $8-10k off, so total cost will be 2k more and get a brand knew car w/no miles on it.

That would be nice but I've already checked earlier this year and I can't afford the payment on a new one because of what I still owe on my Taurus. I probably won't be able to get this one right now either but I'm going to try.
