Midas,
Your red/red/full red interior Premium 2003 is one of 1,100. There were 14,505 2003s made as they were only in production for eight months due to a delay in getting the newer engines. There were 31,121 2002s made. I’ll check your build date when I get back to work on Tuesday.

Quickdraw, do you think that 20 - 25 years down the road having two documented build dates will add any value to the car? I kind of think that just being one of the 1,000 or so that made the trip back home to Wixom for repairs will add a little uniqueness to the vehicle, and with the two documented build dates, that just might add some value to the vehicle.

Lon,
I don't know if two build dates will add any value but it does add interest to the car. From my admittedly limited car show experience that kind of thing is great to note on a placard next to car. It seems like the winning cars don’t just show a nice clean car, they also have extra general information about the year & model of the car plus specific information about the individual unit (previous owners, etc). If you make up a placard like this don’t forget to mention the Bird was Motor Trends 2002 Car of the Year.

When I get back to work Tuesday I’m going to run your VIN and see what build date the system I access has listed for you. I’m betting it’s the first date – the day it was assembled – not a recall/rework date.

Lon,
1FAHP60A02Y101396
Ordered: 1/20/2001
Built: 8/5/2001
Ship Date: 8/6/2001
At Dealer: 10/9/2001
Sold Date: 10/10/2001
Looks like it was lost for two months <grin>... That June date on your sticker was the date the sticker was printed, usually a few days before the actual build date. The door VIN was probably made the same time. My guess is that the car was caught in the middle of a STOP BUILD order and it wasn't completed, maybe not even started, until early August. If you took the car home 10/9 maybe it was late in the day and the dealer didn't report the sale until the next day.

Midas,

QUICKDRAW

Thanks for the info. I think that the time frame Ford shows is about correct. I believe I got the car in Jan last day but I may be off a day or 2.
