oil light came on

2003 with 27000 miles and the oil light came on. It's not due for an oil change for another 1300 miles. It was down to the low side of the range on the dip stick. I added a half qt and the light went out and didn't come back on. Is it that sensitve???

Stauty, the oil light comes on due to a drop in oil pressure, which can be caused by a low oil level or a myriad of other things (pump etc.). Oil level is usually the cause, but the way to determine how low it is, would be to add until full. Not til the light goes off.
