Shop service and repair manuals
Ran across a site that has the 2002 - 2004 Thunderbird shop repair manuals by Ford from 169.00 to 199.00. These are the same manuals used by the Ford techs at your Ford dealer. www.Books4Cars.com

Good for 2005?
do you suppose I could use one for my 2005?
I don't think there is a lot of difference, motor, etc wise. Any ideas? |

Aren't they the same as the ones available here on site, electronically?

George,
The manuals I found are kind of like a chiltons or haynes maintenance manuals made for ford technicians. Not like the user manuals found in your vehical. Steve |

Steve: thanks for the reply. I didn't realize there was any that detailed and available to us
yrbamje: - I believe they are mechanically identical and therefore a 2005 book may never come out. All of the changes I am aware of were cosmetic in 2005 |

2004-2005

As far as I know the only diffrence is the 50th aniversary emblem and from 2003-2004 it is the interior light by the rear view mirror. I have the Ford shop manual for the 2004 and if any body need something from it please let me know (frank1353@yahoo.com). It is 3" thick and it is the only place I was able to find the trany gear ratios that it is needed to fine tune The ECM using autoenginuity and sniper tunning software/hardware. Thanks, Frank |

My 2004 has a slight hesitation when I kick it down to passing gear. Also, it is a little jerky when shifting. Does yours do this? Any ideas on how to get it to smooth out? Annoying! Does using aftermarket software to tune the ECM invalidate warranty? Was it worth it. Plan to change my own oil and tranny/fluid and filter. Any info on that would be very helpful. Only had the car a few months. Love it! Padraig 2004 "Black Beauty" owner |

Padraig:
I believe you are still under warranty. Others have had this same complaint and went in for service and they "reflashed the transmission", problem solved. You may want to try that first. In fact since the drive line is primarily Lincoln, I would suggest that you go to a Lincoln dealer before a Ford dealer since they would be more familiar with these symptoms. Unless of course you have confidence in your Ford dealer. Last edited by George : 05-29-2007 at 01:32 PM. |

This is an old thread but thought it was worth bringing to the surface again for new members and/or those who may plan on doing their own repairs. Especially since our Birds are getting older. I believe that manuals mentioned in post #1 are Helm manuals. Helm is a company that prints most of the shop manuals for auto companies.
Steve is correct, they are expensive: A site that shows acxtual costs for the 2002 Tbird books: http://www.books4cars.com/result3.as...ageField2.y=12 However, you can probably find them less expensive on ebay. There are Helm manuals for the 02 thru 05s on ebay, though they probably won't be listed as a Helm manual. Just search for 2002 thunderbird manual. There are a lot of the electrical manuals and several sets of the shop manuals ranging in price from $50 to $100 for the set. The 2002 shop manual is a 2 book set. Whereas the '03-05s is one book. Just passing on info ![]() Edit: Here's a site, I plugged in 2002 TBird, and there's a whole list of items available. Even special ones for Canadian Birds: http://www.helminc.com/helm/Result.a...P6ND5C3P9X40S2 Last edited by George : 10-16-2007 at 02:27 PM. |

Shop manuals
I ordered a shop manual for my '02 from the "books4cars" site a few weeks ago. It was pricy but was the genuine Ford Shop Manual- 2 volumes each about one and half inches thick and obviously very detailed. Only down side to it is that it gives instructions to use a lot of specialized test equipment that most of us "shade tree mechanics" don't have access to. I suppose if it saves me one trip to the dealership it's paid for itself.

These shop manuals are also available on Ebay at a better price.
