wipermotor 59 Bird

hello I have a problem with the wiper moter of my 59 bird
when turned on it makes a small stroke and than stopes only when switched of it returns
how doe's these vacuum motors work
please help

I don't know if the motor in the 59 is the same as my 55 but they can be a real pain. They are vaccume powered and are prone to leaks. If yours isn't working there are three possibilities. There could be no vaccume because there is a leak in the lines. Replace them first. Then there could be no vaccume because the vaccume booster on the fuel pump is bad. A new fuel pump is $50 and easy to install. If your not getting any vaccume at the whiper motor then do this. I'd do it anyways because a new fuel pump is always nice. Finally the whiper motor could be bad but these are very hard to install because they are difficult to reach and you have to work on your back if you don't want to remove the dash.
