Thanks, I know people can be desperate for any info on their t-birds. Is anybody else waiting for a new t-bird that's on order? I'm down to only HKS on my list now.

I am still hanging in waiting for #22976. I'm guessing either next week or the following week to start down the line. What's your estimate?

Redbird: Your post above says you are down to HKS, is anybody else waiting? I am, but I think you need a VIN number to check it.
If you can check it with a dealer code and order number, please let me know and I'll pass it on to you. It's been 15 long months so far.
I've watched what you have done for others in the past and think it's great that you are willing to follow through for them. If you cannot help without a VIN I will understand and will let you know as soon as I get one. Thanks,
George

Lon, I was here when you were waiting but was not able to check the numbers way back then.
George, all 2002 orders should have a VIN. If your dealer is no help, talk to the computer at 800 962-3746. Model is P60 and skip the F in the dealer code.
Tundrabird, see my last post on original topic!

REDBIRD - Thanks for the response. I have checked that phone number every week and still get "clean and unscheduled". Spoke to dealer yesterday and he said Eastern Regional Manager claims that it will be serialized and it will be a 2002.
Maybe they're giving me the all american runaround.
I did speak with another dealer who says he has one left on order, with no takers, and it too is clean and unscheduled. Hmmmm.
Thanks much anyway and lets stay connected,
George

Looks like I spoke too soon, at the current production rate, VIN #25000 will be built by the end of August, however a few VIN numbers have been skipped. Your's can't be too far away.

Hello redbird
Your responses on this forum help me keep my sanity.
I will be checking in during the August 19 date for my 24737. It would be nice to know that I have an early rotation number. But who knows I may get the last 2002 built.
I enjoy reading your replys to lucky future Tbird owners.

I'm new here. Just ordered mine about 3 months ago. Can I get my VIN from the dealer? What info do I need to get from my dealer in order to find out how much longer for the bird?
My dealer seams pretty clueless, as am I.

Tbirdman,
Your 22976 started down the line this afternoon, will finish tomorrow and be on it's way.
jgaffney,
The dealer should check to see if you have a VIN for your order or read post #6 & 7 above for getting VIN info.
Hello redbird
Last time I called Ford about a build date, I talked to a live person who told me my build date was August 12 and had been changed to August 19. This was due to some order revision and that was about 2 weeks ago.
I called 800-962-3746 and talked to the computer. Gave dealer code and VIN number and was told my build date was August 12.
Should I believe the computer? It sure would be nice to have the Tbird delivered for our 36th Weding aniversary on September 10. My wife says it is the 10th. I always thought it was September 11. I think she is right.
VIN 24737
HKS
P.S.
Now I hope the robots do a good job of purging the paint before they paint my blue one.
When I get black coffee out of the machine after someone got coffee with cream, my coffe always has some white in it. Maybe my blue will be the second or third after the purge.
Just kidding.

I think someone said the computer is updated on Thursday so call Friday for updated status. Don't worry, the robots know what they are doing, colors are computer checked for accuracy.

Today I called a human operator and I was told that 24737 will be built between August 12 and August 19. That is better then saying the week of August 19.
So, there may be a chance of 24737 going down the line on August 12 or the next day.

excuse my ignorance, but i'm new to the list and i'm picking up our tbird (black premium) thursday. how does one tell what number there car is, and which plant are they being made in? sorry for the dumb questions, but like everyone else with the new toy, the more trivia one can clog their minds with the better.

Go to this page to register your car http://www.thunderbirdforum.com/enter_registry.asp and there is a pop up window that shows you were the sequence number is.
Also the Window sticker will indicate that it is from Wixom as all the rest do.

HKS, the T-bird assembly area runs one shift, 5 days a week. They're currently building about 500 birds a week.

That computes. You said they are working on the 24000 series now. Since mine is 24737 it would mean next week starting August 12 may be the week for mine to be built.
HKS
redbird,
Are the 24,000 series Tbirds going down the line yet?
What are the rotation numbers you are seeing?

i posted the info in the registry, didn't see any pop up window giving me the order, and i still don't see my car in the registry. my dealer has a piece of masking tape on my owners manual saying 22375, i'm assuming that's the number.

HKS, I can't help with your particular VIN, but on a tour of the Wixom plant today, a car I saw rolling off the end of the line had a number ending in 24434. The highest number I saw on the fit and finish line was 24499. We were told by an inside source that production will not stop with 25K units, but they will continue building 2002's right up to the model changover in November. Their current estimate for total 2002 production is 28K.

Wow, that is at least 1 unit extra per dealer!

Thanks for the heads up on the vin numbers. I don't need a Monday car(hangovers)and maybe today (13th) is not a good day either. A Wednesday car would be good.

My high VIN number in combination with the August 12 week build date must have caused some problems. Rumors of building 30,000 instead of 25,000 Tbirds did not help much.
Checked the computer Thursday and Friday evening. The computer still says it is sheduled to be built the week of August 12.
The work week of August 12 is over. Now what do I believe? Maybe some e-mail might clarify things.

HKS,
The computer has been pretty accurate, your bird is probably built, maybe too late in the week for the computer update. I'm not able to check on t-birds being built at this time, although I should be able to tell you something before your bird reaches Nebraska in about two weeks.
redbird,
Called the computer today. Computer said my Tbird was shipped by convoy carrier on August 17 (Saturday). They must update the computer more often than Thursday.

You must be out of control excited. I've been following your postings while you've been waiting. Good luck with your new bird!

I am very pleased with the car.
Now I need to decide if I should have the hood re-painted. There is a small nick on top (drivers side middle)of the hood. Metal is showing. It happened at the factory. Looks like someone droped a screwdriver on it.
I am thinking of having the dealer put touch up paint on the nick so I can drive it home.
Does anyone know if Ford would ship a new hood, painted, or if they would ship it unpainted?

Good news for me after a ordering my Red/Red/Partial on 8/2/02 from my local dealer, and calling daily to the 800 to check on the bird, today the computer told me it was scheduled for production week of September 16.
Question # 1, for those of you who have checked on this before, is this an accurate date I can count on?
Question # 2, I see on the forum that some of you have the VIN number how and where do I get this information?
redbird or any one else, can you help?
Also I checked on insurance and was quoted $650 yearly.
mike02redbird
If you have a production date, the dealer will have the VIN number. My insurance is $286 for 6 months. I told them I will drive 3000 miles per year. Mileage makes a difference.
